Overview

As a Cloud Operations Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in launching the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC). This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of experienced professionals with a strong cloud operations background. Your expertise will be crucial in building and leading operations and development teams that deliver high-availability services for EU customers.

You will collaborate with global teams to influence the evolution of cloud services and technology, while also operating and improving one of the largest software systems. This includes reviewing the operational health of services, writing actionable bug reports, and implementing changes in production systems. Additionally, you will develop scripts or tools to help root cause analysis and accelerate problem resolution, and share improvements with the team.

Responsibilities
  • Launch the ESC in collaboration with global teams and influence the evolution of cloud services and technology.
  • Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations and improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
  • Operate and improve one of the largest software systems, review the operational health of services, and write actionable bug reports when anomalies are found.
  • Follow change management processes to implement changes in production systems and address the team's backlog of operational issues.
  • Develop scripts or tools to help root cause analysis and accelerate problem resolution, and share improvements with the team.
  • Occasionally participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents outside of standard hours.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Employees must be resident in the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.
  • Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.
  • Employees will participate in an on-call rota.

Basic Qualifications
  • National of an EU member state.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science (or related IT discipline) or equivalent industry experience.
  • Knowledge or experience in scripting (Bash, Python, or Ruby) or software development (Java, TypeScript, or similar), with Linux and networking fundamentals to troubleshoot and optimize system performance and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to execute standard operating procedures and follow operational best practices.
  • Knowledge or experience operating services in cloud environments.
  • Experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications, tuning performance, optimizing fleet utilization, and using monitoring frameworks.
  • Knowledge or experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar).
