Job Title: Toolmaker

A skilled Toolmaker is required to produce tooling components, assemble, test and modify tools and dies to meet design specifications. The ideal candidate will have a time-served apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in Toolmaking or Mechanical Engineering, with a minimum of 3-5 years experience in a toolmaking environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD data and technical specifications to ensure accurate production.
  • Operate manual and CNC machines to produce tooling components, adhering to strict quality control standards.
  • Assemble, test and modify tools and dies to meet design requirements and tolerances, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance and repairs on existing tooling to minimize downtime and costs.
  • Collaborate with design engineers and production staff to resolve tooling issues and improve tool performance through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used for auditing and analysis purposes.

Requirements:

  • Proficient in reading technical drawings and using precision measuring instruments to ensure accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Skilled in machining processes including turning, milling, grinding and fitting to produce high-quality tooling components.
  • Knowledge of CNC programming to optimize production efficiency and reduce lead times.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer expectations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in injection molding, press tooling or die casting tools to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Mastercam) to improve productivity and efficiency.
