The ESB Networks Smart Metering Operations Centre (SMOC) is responsible for the successful implementation of the Smart Metering programme, which aims to upgrade the country's electricity meter infrastructure with modern smart meters.

This project has already seen over 1.9 million meters upgraded, with the remaining meters due to be completed by the end of 2025.

The Designated Data Owner role within SMOC's System Governance pillar is critical to the programme's success, as it ensures that all data owned and processed by SMOC is handled in accordance with relevant legislation and company policies.

Key responsibilities include ensuring access rights are regularly reviewed, cataloguing and classifying data according to relevant policies, and engaging with the ESB Networks Data Steward and ESB Data Protection Office to ensure compliance with GDPR requirements.

Additional duties involve supporting responses to data requests, conducting audits and compliance checks, developing and maintaining documentation, identifying risks, and promoting data governance awareness across the SMOC team.

This role requires strong communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to understand and solve problems in a collaborative manner.

Knowledge of Electricity Meters and Metering Systems is also essential.

A related postgraduate degree or equivalent experience is required, along with expertise in data protection laws and regulations like GDPR.

Experience working in Data Management and Data Governance, self-motivation, prioritisation, strong interpersonal skills, relationship building, influencing, and stakeholder management are also desired qualifications.
