Job Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Social Support Specialist to join our team. As a Social Support Specialist, you will provide support and services to families and children with intellectual disability and/or Autism.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a community-based setting, providing flexible respite support to high priority families. You will be responsible for contributing to local service planning, participating in creative development, and ensuring a safe place of work.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and participate in the local service planning process and the creative development and ongoing changing needs of the service.
  • Provide personal care and support to service users where required.
  • Ensure a safe place of work, incorporating Western Care Association's Dignity at Work Policy and Health & Safety requirement.
  • To promote safety in all environments, in line with the Association's practices.
  • Use positive approaches to support people who may have challenging behaviour in line with Organisational practice.

Requirements

  • No minimum qualifications required for this position.
  • Knowledge and experience of supporting individuals with Intellectual disability and/or Autism is essential.
  • An understanding of person and family centred approach is essential.
  • Previous experience working with young people preferable.
  • Good communication skills, managing time effectively and timely record keeping are essential.
  • A knowledge of working in partnership with families is desirable.
  • Experience of working in partnership as part of a team and with other agencies is desirable.
  • Flexibility in relation to working hours and location.
  • Good knowledge of IT skills is preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Full driver's license is essential.
  • All applicants will be subject to Irish Garda Vetting & Reference checks.
  • All applicants from Countries outside the E.U. will be required to provide relevant work authorization to take up employment in Republic of Ireland.
  • All applicants will be required to access Overseas Police Clearance if they have lived outside of the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland more than 6 months since the age of 18 years.
