AWS Infrastructure Services is the backbone of Amazon's cloud infrastructure, responsible for designing, planning, delivering, and operating all AWS global infrastructure. Job Description
The Data Center Global Services team at AWS is seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineer for Construction (BMS/EPMS) to join our EMEA team. This role involves overseeing building automation systems within Amazon data centers. If you are passionate about delivering exceptional customer experiences, think globally, and have a knack for innovation, this could be the perfect challenge for you.
We're looking for a seasoned engineer who can leverage their technical expertise across project management, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or technology backgrounds to drive the development of sophisticated controls platforms. Our Control Engineers work individually and collaboratively to develop new products, support existing ones, test equipment, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
Main Responsibilities
Our ideal candidate will oversee the deployment, maintenance, and upgrade of BMS (Building Management System) & EPMS (Electrical Power Monitoring System) across our leased/colocation data centers. They will collaborate closely with AWS DCEO teams to implement new builds, upgrades, and ensure high availability and resiliency of control systems.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Analyzing customer needs to inform project scope and specifications
2. Managing scopes of work tailored to site specifics and customer requirements
3. Leading project engineering to determine work scope based on design intent and customer needs
4. Implementing specifications according to work environment
5. Developing control panel Bill of Materials (BOMs)
6. Creating ISA data sheets for temperature, level, flow, and pressure transmitters, along with ISA data sheets for control valves, positioners, analytical instruments, and other types of instrumentation
7. Designing drawings for control panels, power distribution, junction boxes, including general arrangement, internal layout, schematics, interconnection, and wire diagrams
8. Developing logic diagrams in International Automation format for complex logic devices such as Programmable Logical Controllers and Distributed Control Systems
9. Preparing cable routing plans and schedules
10. Performing inspections, testing, and commissioning of facility systems
11. Providing technical assistance as needed to internal customers
12. Coordinating project work internally within the department and externally with other departments to ensure timely completion of projects within budget
13. Traveling domestically and internationally to support other regions
Required Skills and Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, HVAC, or related fields
- Minimum three years' experience in BMS or EPMS Controls; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong understanding of electrical diagrams, control diagrams, building operations, control circuits, and industrial HVAC
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated success in leading and managing teams, preferably in a Controls, Mechanical, or electrical construction environment
- Experience as a Controls Engineering Specialist
- Minimum 3 years of field service experience preferably with products like Siemens: Apogee, Honeywell: Building Controls/Trend, Schneider Electric: PowerLogic/Struxureware
- Project management, organization, and problem-solving skills with a drive for results and ability to handle multiple tasks
- Masters in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, HVAC, or related fields. Certificates including Project Management qualification (PMP, IPMA, IPMC), Lean or Six Sigma, Trend/IQ Vision Certified, Niagra N4 Certified, Schneider certified Engineer, Distech certified Engineer
