The Role of a Speech and Language Therapist

This role involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting adults availing of our services across east County Galway. The Speech and Language Therapist will work within a person-centred framework, alongside the people supported, their support teams, and families.

Key Responsibilities

• Delivering speech and language therapy services to adults with intellectual disabilities.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to provide holistic support.
• Developing and implementing individualised plans to promote autonomy, health, and wellbeing.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Registration as a Speech & Language Therapist with the CORU Registration Board.
• Experience in working with adults with intellectual disability, including placements.
• Experience working in an intellectual disability setting, including placements or other relevant experience.
• Qualification and competence to practice with disorders of Feeding, Eating, Drinking, and Swallowing (FEDS).

Desirable Skills and Certifications

• Experience in using total and inclusive communication strategies, including Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
• Lamh Module One certification and other relevant Continuous Professional Development.
• Knowledge of disability-related legislation and standards of practice.
• Understanding of person-centred planning and biopsychosocial models.
