Gaia Talent is seeking a highly motivated Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for conducting daily inspections and investigating complaints to ensure compliance with relevant waste legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate and report on all aspects of illegal waste activity.
- Evaluate compliance with waste legislation and regulations, including the Waste Management Act 1996 and Regulation (EC) 1013 of 2007.
- Inspect and audit producers of waste, waste facilities, waste collection permit holders, and waste in transit.
- Analyse data and gather intelligence related to illegal waste activities.
- Record outcomes of audits/complaint investigations and update data management systems.
- Conduct covert surveillance when necessary.
- Prepare reports on non-compliances and suspected breaches of legislation.
- Provide evidence in court cases resulting from investigations.
- Liaise with enforcement bodies, including Local Authorities, the Environmental Protection Agency, and An Garda Síochána.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Degree in Environmental Sciences or similar, NVQ Level 8 or higher, or minimum 10 years of experience in investigating, taking enforcement actions, compliance assistance, preparing court files, and giving evidence in court.
- Full clean driver's licence (min category B).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Able to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
