Job RoleThis key role is responsible for creating and maintaining a framework that ensures the delivery of high-quality, safe patient care within the Department's remit. The successful candidate will proactively manage employee fitness for work, especially in safety-critical positions. Additionally, they will administer the provision of welfare, well-being, and counselling services to employees.
The Chief Medical Officer will set medical standards of fitness to work for all positions within the company, with a focus on safety-critical roles. They will also manage the administration of a Primary General Practitioner service for employees and their families. Furthermore, the role involves interpreting and reporting the results of Drug and Alcohol Testing Programmes as a Medical Review Officer.
Key responsibilities include providing support to the safety management systems, advising management on compliance with statutory legislation regarding employee health and safety, and administering Health Promotion to all employees via the Health Promotion Unit. The role also entails liaising with national and international organizations to ensure compliance with best national and international norms.
The Chief Medical Officer will provide specialist advice on medical Ill Health Retirement of employees, offer professional advice in statutory arenas, and engage with the Faculty of Occupational Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in training for Specialist Registrars. Finally, they will promote and support the dissemination of medical standards of fitness for safety-critical work among the medical community.
Requirements:
- Primary Qualification in Medicine from a recognized Medical School/University
- Membership of the Irish College of GPs or Royal College of Physicians Ireland or equivalent
- Membership of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, Royal College of Physicians of Ireland or equivalent
- On the Specialist Register of the Medical Council of Ireland in Occupational Medicine
- Fellowship of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland or equivalent
- Experience in and Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation
