About this Opportunity

This role is an exciting chance to join a leading Environmental restoration/development body in Ireland and work on environmental conservation projects.

The successful candidate will have experience in ecological background research, desk studies, fieldwork, and biological data collection and interpretation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct ecological background research, desk studies, fieldwork, and biological data collection and interpretation to best practice guidelines and methodologies.
  • Prepare Ecological Impact Assessments and Habitats Directive Assessment reports on the likely impacts of proposed capital and maintenance projects and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Commission ecological assessments as required, manage external consultants, and review outputs.
  • Support the Environment and Heritage Section in conducting/overseeing environmental and heritage studies.
  • Deliver fit for purpose project outputs within set deadlines to support the engineering and technical teams in project delivery.
  • Prepare habitat maps using GIS software.
  • Interact with statutory and non-statutory stakeholders and represent Waterways Ireland on various committee/fora as required.
What We're Looking For
  • A highly skilled Ecologist with strong knowledge of GIS software.
  • Excellent report writing skills and ability to liaise with local authorities and government departments.
