Lead Building Automation Specialist

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Building Automation Specialist to design and lead building automation projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership & Technical Guidance:
    • Provide technical leadership and guidance to project teams of up to 25 engineers.
    • Identify and assign tasks within the project team.
    • Assist with change order generation by estimating hardware costs and engineering effort required for changes in project scope.
  • Instrumentation & Electrical Design:
    • Create detailed instrument lists from P&ID drawings.
    • Evaluate instrumentation (temperature transmitters, pressure transmitters, flow meters, valve actuators, etc.) and select appropriate devices for each project.
    • Evaluate and select controls hardware suitable for each project.
    • Compile submittal documentation for controls and instrument hardware.
    • Create panel layouts and electrical schematics for controls enclosures.
    • Procure project hardware.
    • Provide technical support for panel fabrication technicians.
    • Inspect completed control enclosures.
  • System Design & Configuration:
    • Lead customer design review meetings.
    • Configure user interface and HMI screens.
    • Configure DDC, PLC, and/or DCS control algorithms.
    • Execute internal functional and quality control testing.
    • Draft system documentation.
    • Assist in customer demonstrations and acceptance testing.
  • Onsite System Startup:
    • Install project software and configuration onto site systems.
    • Participate in point-to-point loop checks for all instrumentation.
    • Perform software calibration and tuning.
    • Conduct functional tests of all systems.
    • Troubleshoot installation discrepancies.
    • Support additional customer testing.
    • Program field modifications as required.
    • Train customer representatives on operations and maintenance of the system.
    Requirements
    • Technical Experience:
      • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field or related degree.
      • 8+ years of experience in a related field/industry.
      • Controls experience in at least one of the following:
        • Rockwell: FactoryTalk Suite, RSLogix/Studio 5000, familiarity with PlantPAx DCS.
        • Aveva System Platform.
        • Inductive Ignition Perspective.
        • Distech: Experience with BACnet and LON Distech controllers, Eclypse Controllers.
        • Other useful technologies include:
        • Johnson Controls: Facility Explorer or Metasys controllers.
        • Tridium: Niagara N4.
        • SQL.
        • Scripting languages (VBA, Python, etc.).
        • Knowledge of Kepware OPC server, ThinManager, VMware is preferred.
      • HVAC Experience/Knowledge:
        • Basic understanding of HVAC systems in large building automation systems.
        • Understanding of sequence of operations and P&IDs for HVAC and plant utilities.
        • Experience with functional testing, including creating, maintaining, and executing test plans.
        • Experience specifying instrumentation and control valves for HVAC systems.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and teamwork skills and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
