Job Overview

We seek a highly qualified Assistant Professor in Modern European History to join our academic community at Dublin City University.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach and conduct research in their specialization, as well as contribute to the development of core and optional modules on our undergraduate programmes.

The School offers opportunities for postgraduate supervision, encourages applications for external research funding, and is committed to high-quality research, expecting staff to publish regularly in leading journals and presses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching and Learning: Develop and deliver high-quality courses in modern European history, including survey modules and specialized topics.
  • Research and Scholarship: Conduct original research, publish in leading journals and presses, and secure external research funding.
  • Service and Contribution: Contribute to the School's administrative and service activities, as well as engage in professional development and community outreach.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this position, applicants should possess a PhD in History or a closely related field, with a research specialization focused on nineteenth or twentieth-century continental European history.

Applicants should also demonstrate strong research credentials, an appropriate publication record, and the ability to complement existing strengths in the School.

Additionally, we seek candidates with experience in innovative pedagogies, online or technology-assisted teaching, and the willingness to teach outside their research area.

Requirements

  • PhD in History or a closely related field.

  • Strong research credentials and an appropriate publication record.
  • Ability to complement existing strengths in the School.
  • Independent research program with potential to attract research funding.

  • Ideal candidate will have at least three years of relevant post-doctoral experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, teamwork, and a collegial approach.
  • Postgraduate teaching experience.
