Job Overview

This role is an opportunity to work with a team that prioritizes the well-being and safety of children. As a Senior Practitioner, you will play a vital part in supporting foster carers through a trauma-informed approach, ensuring compliance with national standards and agency policy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide regular support and supervision to foster families.
  • Contribute to the development and growth of the service.
  • Develop skills and knowledge in therapeutic fostering, understanding and responding to trauma and attachment-related issues.
Job DescriptionCore Responsibilities
  • Offer ongoing support and guidance to foster carers, promoting a safe and nurturing environment for children.
  • Collaborate with the team to deliver high-quality foster care training programs.
  • Monitor and review carer competence, ensuring quality placements meet children's needs.
  • Work closely with Tusla, foster carers, and the child/young person to identify and match suitable placements.
  • Deliver link social work support, working with other disciplines/agencies as required to reflect children's and foster carers' needs.
  • Monitor foster placements, ensuring children's needs are met according to care planning.
  • Represent foster carers' views and children's needs in meetings.
  • Identify and respond to unmet needs, escalating according to agency policy and practice.
  • Maintain accurate records and respond to concerns or significant incidents in a timely manner.
  • Build positive relationships with Tusla social work departments, communicate effectively, and attend necessary meetings.
  • Support children's participation in decision-making that influences their lives.
  • Prepare children and young people for transition to independence.
  • Participate in the on-call rota, providing 24-hour support to foster carers.
  • Complete Form F assessments and assist with Foundations for Fostering Training.
  • Utilize the Origins Therapeutic Model in all work with foster families.
Child Protection and Safeguarding
  • Prioritize the protection and welfare of children, adhering to relevant legislation.
  • Ensure adherence to child protection procedures and legislation.
  • Inform foster carers about their responsibility regarding child protection procedures and mandated reporting.
  • Record and investigate critical incidents, allegations, serious concerns, and complaints in line with Origins and Tusla child protection policies.
Social Work Practice
  • Support the development of the trauma-informed therapeutic model, delivering a professional, supportive, and high-quality service.
  • Actively participate as a member of the team, developing skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in professional supervision, continuous professional development, and reflective practice meetings.
  • Engage in ongoing learning, incorporating social work values and ethical principles in all aspects of the role.
  • Induct, educate, and train foster carers and social work colleagues as required.
  • Participate in practice education and promote a culture valuing diversity and respect.
