**Job Description:**

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Regulatory Lawyer to join our team at the Law Society. The successful candidate will have a strong background in data protection law and will be responsible for advising on and conducting regulatory investigations.

The role involves driving improved compliance with data protection legislation by data controllers and processors, handling complaints from individuals, conducting inquiries and investigations, promoting awareness of data protection risks and rights, and cooperating with other EU data protection authorities.

The Senior Regulatory Lawyer will report directly to a Deputy Commissioner and will be responsible for leading teams in authoring investigatory outcome and other reports. They will also provide legal advice, support, and expert analysis across the operational and functional areas of the DPC.

The ideal candidate will have experience of regulatory investigations and/or equivalent enforcement activity, as well as experience of litigating in a regulatory law context and advising on privacy and data protection matters in private or public sector arenas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out, leading or coordinating complaint-handling, statutory inquiries, and investigations.
  • Undertaking expert legal analysis and risk assessment in relation to investigatory activities.
  • Authoring or leading teams in authoring investigatory outcome and other reports.
  • Managing a team of staff and overseeing all activities carried out by team members.
  • Providing legal advice, support, and expert analysis across the operational and functional areas of the DPC.

Requirements:

  • On or before 2 April 2025, be admitted and enrolled as a Solicitor or Barrister in the State; or anticipate that they will be entitled to be enrolled as a Solicitor or Barrister in the State, by 2 April 2025, at the latest.
  • Demonstrate the key competencies for effective performance at this level, including experience of regulatory investigations and/or equivalent enforcement activity, experience of litigating in a regulatory law context, experience of advising on privacy and data protection matters in private or public sector arenas, good understanding of technology and its impact on data protection and privacy, good knowledge and understanding of the EU and national policy agendas in the area of data protection, and experience of public speaking in a professional capacity.
