Key Responsibilities of a Property and Casualty Underwriter

This role involves developing new business opportunities in the upper SME/lower middle-market segment.

  • Underwrite, quote and convert new P&C package business in the lower middle-market segment with precision and speed.
  • Engage with producers and business development managers to build a pipeline of potential opportunities.
  • Negotiate and collaborate with brokers to successfully close new deals.
  • Provide exceptional underwriting services and respond promptly to brokers' inquiries.
  • Work closely with sales, distribution, risk engineering, operations and underwriting management teams.
  • Maintain the highest level of underwriting integrity by adhering to industry best practices.
  • Keep accurate records and data related to underwriting activities.
  • Represent the company and promote its values to brokers and establish strong relationships.
  • Conduct business with the utmost professionalism and adhere to the company's code of conduct and service standards.
Qualifications and Experience Required for Success
  • A degree or higher, preferably with a focus on property and casualty insurance.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in property and casualty underwriting, preferably in the upper SME/lower middle-market segment.
  • A proven track record as a dynamic new business development underwriter with excellent results.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in the upper SME / lower middle-market insurance segment.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions and take initiative.
  • Capacity to adapt to shifting priorities and thrive in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication abilities.
