New Business Opportunities Underwriter

**Job Description**: Our team is looking for a skilled Business Lines New Business Underwriter to join our dynamic and fast-paced environment. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our business lines customers receive exceptional service and support.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of insurance products and policies, as well as excellent analytical and numerical skills. You will be responsible for underwriting new business submissions, negotiating terms and conditions with brokers, and managing the new business pipeline. In addition, you will work closely with other internal functions, such as Sales and Distribution, Claims, Finance, and Risk Engineering, to ensure that all areas of the business are managed effectively.

As a Business Lines New Business Underwriter, your main responsibilities will include:

1. Underwriting and analysing new business submissions in accordance with our framework, policies, authority levels, and guidelines.
2. Negotiating terms and conditions with broker partners in line with our agreed strategy and target risk appetite while nurturing broker relationships.
3. Managing and prioritising the new business pipeline and work queues in conjunction with Sales and Distribution, ensuring agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met.
4. Continuous engagement with Sales and Distribution, Risk Engineering (when applicable), and broker partners to generate, drive, and secure new business opportunities.
5. Building relationships in support of customer/business acquisition and retention by handling a range of queries, providing advice, and assisting with the development of accounts.
6. Implementing agreed technical standards, controls, practices, and procedures to maintain underwriting discipline.
7. Proactively contributing ideas and working on the development of new or enhanced propositions based on technical, customer, and distributor insights, supporting testing, pricing feedback, and participating in training when necessary.
8. Adhering to Central Bank compliance standards and operating according to Zurich's high standards.
9. Demonstrating a high level of Quality Assurance in all aspects of the underwriting process.
10. Ensuring any issues arising are dealt with in accordance with Zurich's standards, and where appropriate, escalating them in a timely manner.
11. Maintaining underwriting records in accordance with regulatory and statutory requirements, using a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing.

**Required Skills and Qualifications:**

• 3+ years' industry knowledge
• Relevant professional qualifications (e.g. CIP, MDI, ACII)
• Excellent technical insurance knowledge, including specific knowledge in Commercial Insurance
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills
• Excellent knowledge of Zurich's products and policy wordings
• Ability to work within a team environment, focused on achieving both individual and team goals
• Ability to build key relationships with partners and customers
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
• Strong negotiation skills
• Excellent planning and organisational skills to manage and prioritise workload and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
