Intellectual Disability Support Specialist

At Kare, we aim to provide individuals with intellectual disabilities the support they need to thrive in their community. As an Intellectual Disability Support Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in supporting these individuals in achieving their goals and enhancing their overall quality of life.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct assessments of need for individuals and develop individualised support plans tailored to their specific requirements.
  • Collaborate with individuals to identify and achieve their personal goals, promoting independence and self-advocacy.
  • Support individuals in preparing healthy meals, fostering a culture of wellness and nutrition.
  • Assist individuals in all aspects of daily living, including personal care, managing complex needs, and behaviours.
  • Facilitate access to healthcare professionals and maintain effective communication with families.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with families, ensuring their involvement in the care and well-being of the individual.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum qualification: Level 7 Social Care Degree or equivalent.
  • Current CORU-Social Care Worker registration.
  • A full, clean, manual Irish driving licence.
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland without sponsorship.
  • Proficiency in Person Centred Planning, Advocacy, Safeguarding, and Risk Management principles.
  • Understanding of challenging behaviours and positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, interpersonal, organisational, and initiative skills.
  • IT skills and ability to perform administrative tasks efficiently.
