Job Description

The role of an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Counsellor involves providing emotional and practical support to clients. This includes assessing presenting issues, determining appropriate support plans, and offering short-term counselling interventions with a focus on solutions and effective coping skills/problem management.

This position requires managing online referrals promptly and accepting/declining cases within agreed timeframes. Regular communication is also necessary for arranging appointments with clients and providing written/verbal feedback and case notes in a timely manner.

In addition to these responsibilities, EAP Counsellors are expected to report back to the Case Management Team in the event of risk. They must also be able to refer Clients on to other therapeutic support, demonstrating knowledge of local resources.

The ideal candidate will have experience in short-term (limited session) counselling interventions and be skilled in organisational dynamics, including the impact of individual problems on performance and conduct at work. IT literacy, particularly with Microsoft Word, email, and relevant software systems, is also essential.

Key Requirements:
  • Registered or accredited by a professional counselling body, such as IACP, PSI, ICP, APCP, or IAHIP, or equivalent.
  • If not accredited, possession of a Diploma qualification and registration with a professional counselling body, along with 3 years' post-qualification experience and 450 counselling hours.
  • Ability to work within a theoretical approach suitable for a short-term counselling model and EAP context.
  • Demonstrable regular professional clinical supervision.
  • Professional indemnity insurance coverage of at least €1,000,000.
  • A dedicated consulting room with discrete access, ensuring client confidentiality and comfort.
