Apprentice Maintenance Fitter Role Overview

This is an exciting career opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to become a skilled Maintenance Fitter Apprentice. You will be learning while supervised by experienced craft technicians on the daily maintenance of facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the safe operation of production machines and learn how to resolve common issues, perform repairs and replace parts correctly on equipment.
  • Learn to accurately record work completed, parts used etc. in CMMS systems such as PEMAC.
  • Perform supervised duties to install, repair and maintain plant utilities like HVAC, boilers, compressors, chillers etc.
  • Carry out machining and modifications in the engineering workshop.
  • Learn to troubleshoot, maintain and repair electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic systems.
  • Read and understand equipment manuals, assembly drawings and wiring diagrams effectively.
  • Perform supervised preventive maintenance on machines, assist vendors and contractors during scheduled overhauls.
  • Learn to correctly use a variety of hand tools, power tools and electrical test equipment while performing duties.
Requirements:
  • Hold a Leaving Certificate grade O6 or higher (formerly Leaving cert grade D or higher) in mathematics, a technical subject or science.
  • Work experience or hobbies in machinery use and upkeep are advantageous.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal are required.
  • Experience with PCs is an advantage.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and individual achievements.
  • Tech drawing and construction studies to Leaving Cert level would be highly beneficial.
  • The successful candidate must pass a colour blindness test.
