Role Summary:

  • The role of a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Pain is to provide specialist physiotherapy care to complex pain patients referred to the physiotherapy department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

">
  1. Attend consultant-led clinics and work as part of the musculoskeletal physiotherapy team.
  2. Provide specialist physiotherapy care to complex pain patients referred to the physiotherapy department.
  3. Consult on pain referrals received to other services within physiotherapy department.
  4. Undertake a clinical caseload within the physiotherapy department with reference to the MSK capacity modelling system.
  5. Develop service specific to the pain service, specifically around improving the clinical care pathway for patients, facilitating patient's self-management and discharge from the service.
  6. Involvement in research and audit activities.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

">
  • Leading the physiotherapy profession and carrying a clinical caseload appropriate to the post.
  • Client assessment, development and implementation of individualised treatment plans that are client centred and in line with best practice.
  • Goal setting in partnership with client, family and other team members as appropriate.
  • Standards of practice of self and staff appointed to clinical / designated area(s).
  • Clinical resource for other Physiotherapists.
  • Communication and work in co-operation with the Physiotherapy Manager and other team members in providing an integrated quality service.
  • Documentation of client records in accordance with professional standards and departmental policies.
  • Providing a service in varied locations in line with local policy / guidelines and within appropriate time allocation.
  • Participation and lead clinician as appropriate in review meetings, case conferences etc.
  • Development and promotion of professional standards of practice.
