Bord na Móna's Renewable Energy Business Unit is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable development. We are seeking an experienced Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Specialist to join our team and contribute to our mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • \
  • Lead the EIA process, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of Environmental Impact Assessment Reports and Appropriate Assessments.\
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the Planning Team, contributing to the company strategy and ensuring compliance with planning and environmental regulations.\
  • Stay abreast of changes in planning and environmental legislation, policy decisions, and development plans to maximize outcomes.\
  • Collaborate with the Stakeholder and Advocacy team to develop project plans for communication and consultation with local communities and stakeholders.\
  • Prepare specifications for third-party services and assist the procurement team in associated processes.\
  • Ensure adherence to Bord na Móna's Health & Safety and Environmental policies, as well as EU and national policies and statutory requirements.\
  • Provide guidance and support to junior staff in upskilling and mentoring, focusing on EIA and Appropriate Assessment processes.\
  • Contribute to Performance Management to deliver individual and team objectives.\

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess:

  • \
  • A Hons Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent. A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline is desirable but not essential.\
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading EIAR and AA/NIS preparation for large-scale projects, reporting to a Planning Programme Manager, and liaising with management levels.\
  • Proven expertise in leading EIS/EIAR and AA/NIS documentation delivery for large-scale development projects, including experience managing multidisciplinary teams.\
  • A thorough understanding of the EIA process and Irish planning policy and legislation.\
  • Experience in renewables and related infrastructure, or SID projects, is desirable but not essential.\
  • Technical leadership in ecology, noise, air quality, or other related disciplines is also desirable but not essential.\
  • Cross-project experience with differing priorities, risk profiles, and timelines is beneficial but not essential.\
