Occupational Health and Safety Expert

This role oversees the implementation of comprehensive health and safety strategies to safeguard clients. It involves leading a team in delivering exceptional services.

• Assist senior managers in directing the health and safety team.
• Maintain up-to-date health and safety documentation.
• Revise and update procedures as necessary.
• Evaluate required training and ensure appropriate courses are available.
• Review the effectiveness of the safety statement annually and modify it as needed.
• Manage health and safety records for company activities.
• Coordinate company duties according to legislation requirements.
• Organize Safety Committees as part of consultation processes.
• Arrange Fire Marshals, Fire Wardens, First Aiders, Safety Reps, DSE Assessors, and provide adequate training.
• Ensure access to relevant health and safety information for employee-employer consultation.
• Investigate accidents/near misses when necessary.
• Perform periodic inspections of company locations.
• Report to the Board of Directors.
• Attend or design review meetings, considering client specifications, contractual, and statutory obligations, and PSDP performance.
• Mentor and develop staff.
• Fulfill PSDP duties and act as Health & Safety Coordinator for the Design Process as outlined in the Safety Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013.
• Project manage PSDP projects, including client management, coordination, and completion within budget and scope.
• Provide guidance on legislative compliance and industry best practice.
• Offer technical support and leadership to clients and designers.
• Manage occupational health and safety requirements of a large engineering consultancy firm.
• Continuously develop skills and stay updated with the latest technologies, best practices, and innovations within the health and safety sector in infrastructure design and delivery.

• Hold a Level 8 degree in Health and Safety or a related field. A postgraduate Level 9 Masters would be advantageous.
• Be a member of IOSH and pursuing Chartered in Health and Safety or engineering.
• Have expert knowledge of construction health & safety regulations and associated practices & procedures.
• Be able to act as a competent PSDP within the meaning of the Safety, Health & Welfare Act 2005 and Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013.
• Have at least 15 years of experience in building or civil engineering infrastructure works, including safety management, as well as the management of the role of Project Supervisor Design Process and/or Project Supervisor Construction Stage (or similar) in a wide range of sectors.
• Experience of working with OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 or similar safety systems.
• Experience in preparing and reviewing Risk Assessments, Design Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work, and Safety & Health plans.
• Be project-focussed, proactive, and independent, and able to provide a supporting project management role.
• Proven ability to deliver projects and tasks to high quality, on time, and within budget.
• Ability to produce high-quality reports, presentations, and deliverables to clearly communicate complex issues.
• Proven track record of design delivery.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, including diagnosing problems and identifying and recommending solutions.
• Leadership and motivation abilities.
• Ability to plan, manage, and prioritize own workload.

• Specialist technical knowledge of occupational and construction health and safety.
• Competence in collaborating on multi-disciplinary projects with engineering, planning, and environmental professionals.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with clients, suppliers, and colleagues.
• Diligent, professional, and organized approach to work delivery.
• Excellent IT skills, familiar with MS Office.
