Senior Ecologist Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Ecologist to fill this key position in Dublin.

Job Role:

The successful candidate will have a minimum of seven years' experience in environmental consultancy, along with a strong background in ecology.

  • Manage individual contracts to ensure delivery of high-quality ecological consultancy services.
  • Provide specialist ecological advice across a variety of projects.
  • Plan, conduct and oversee site ecological surveys and fieldwork.
  • Prepare and supervise the implementation of Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs).
  • Conduct Appropriate Assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Biodiversity Chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs) and other environmental reports.
  • Write detailed technical reports and other project deliverables.
  • Ensure quality control with a strong focus on accuracy, timelines and continuous improvement of the Ecology team's output.
  • Act as expert witness during Oral Hearings.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and participate in meetings with clients and design teams as needed.
Key Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A degree in ecology or related discipline.
  • At least seven years of post-graduate experience in environmental consultancy.
  • Membership of CIEEM, CIWEM or comparable professional body.
  • Experience in participating in oral hearing process and serving as an expert witness.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Irish wildlife and conservation legislation.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.
  • Proven experience in preparing and overseeing the implementation of Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs).
  • Experience in collaborating within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and project management skills.
