Overview:

The Architecture & Technology team is a group of specialists and senior engineers who collaborate across Programs and teams within the organization. We extend our reach by sponsoring and supporting the Software Engineering Guild.

Our focus is reviewing, teaching, making rules when necessary, and leaning in to help teams solve complex problems. We are skilled in security, design for operability and customer experience, privacy, and regulatory compliance and experts on our Technology Policies.

The Role:

As an A&T Sr Principal Software Engineer, you will participate in numerous engagements with engineering teams, as well as A&T deliverables such as patterns, frameworks, proof-of-concepts, incubated solutions, policy and standards updates, and shared libraries.

You will be spearheading the delivery personally or providing technical leadership to a group of contributors, performing advisory, mentoring roles, and reviewing code.

• Drive resolution on complex enterprise-wide initiatives spanning multiple services/programs.
• Collaborate with business/product owners to architect and deliver new services introducing new products and bundles.
• Contribute and lead Guild initiatives to improve the craftsmanship of Software Engineering.
• Develop architectural design including dependent services, service interactions, and policies.
• Take ownership to improve the customer experience of an entire set of services/applications sold as products or bundled services.
• Simplify and improve the cost/benefit of a function/service/architecture strategy.
• Balance trade-offs between competing interests.
• Take on assignments across different areas of Software Engineering.
• Engage in public speaking engagements and publish white papers and blogs on relevant and emerging technical topics.
• Consult across teams and program lines to identify synergies and reuse opportunities.
• Write recommendations for job promotions based on unbiased view of one's accomplishments.
• Conduct technical interviews for hiring engineering staff and raising performance bar.
• Identify and raise awareness of siloed behaviors amongst teams within the program.
• Mentor and guide software engineers and leads in the team to improve engineering productivity, quality, and technology policy compliance.
• Engage with external technical communities to extend our reach and benefit from discovery outside of the industry.
• Run Principal review architecture meetings and drive resolutions to enterprise-wide challenges and regulatory needs.
• Mentor and coach Principal Engineers across the organization.
• Participate in setting Guild agenda and facilitate Principal community meetings across tech hubs.

Experience and Skills:

• Proven track record of leading large global projects including architecting, estimating, planning, implementing, and operating.
• Demonstrated thought-leadership and cross-functional influence.
• Experienced in multiple languages, secure coding standards, and vulnerability management.
• Understands internals of operating systems (Windows, Linux, Mainframe) to write interoperable and performant code.
• Skills to develop and evangelize reference architecture and run principles.
• Understanding of use cases for advanced design patterns to implement efficient code.
• Understanding and implementation of API standards and cataloging.
• Promotion and coaching of full stack development.
• Experience in leading and coaching teams in software planning and estimation.
• Drives trade-off discussions to set right development capacity.
• Experience in design and execution of automation across multiple business areas.
• Expert understanding of DevOps best practices.
• Performance engineering experience.
• Skills to evaluate practices, metrics, and roles to optimize SDLC methodologies.
• Experience in architecture and cost analysis for cloud environments.
• Skills to articulate architecture patterns of complex systems to stakeholders.
• Experience in setting up test environments simulating production setups.
