Senior Craft Gardener Job Description

Our esteemed client invites an accomplished and motivated Senior Craft Gardener to join their team in a beautiful 18th-century demesne nestled under the majestic Wicklow mountains. This exceptional role presents a unique opportunity to work amidst breathtaking surroundings, overseeing the maintenance of walled gardens, an arboretum, and pleasure grounds.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the upkeep of over 27 acres of diverse and fascinating garden spaces, including rose gardens, perennial borders, and glasshouse/indoor plants. A strong organisational and prioritisation skillset is essential, coupled with attention to detail and the ability to lead a small team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the day-to-day maintenance of garden spaces, ensuring they are always immaculate and well-manicured.
  • Coordinating and implementing seasonal planting schedules, taking into account the specific needs of each garden space.
  • Maintaining accurate records of gardening activities, including plant inventory, pruning schedules, and pest control measures.

Requirements

To excel in this role, you must possess:

  • A relevant horticultural qualification, such as QQI Level 5 Certificate in Horticulture or RHS Level 2 or 3.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar position, with a proven track record of maintaining high-quality garden spaces.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with colleagues and clients.
  • PA1 and PA6 Spraying Certificates (an advantage).
  • A valid driving licence and willingness to commute to site locations.
