Support Specialist

Job Overview

The Support Specialist will deliver support services to clients through active participation in their care planning, collaborating with keyworkers in a non-judgmental and compassionate manner. The role promotes empowerment and confidence building, aligned with the principles of self-help and mutual aid.

The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in a social care setting. Flexibility is required, including availability for day and night shifts on a rotating roster. Adaptability and the ability to treat service users respectfully are essential skills. Professional boundaries must be maintained at all times.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and provide emergency accommodation for individuals in need, familiarizing them with facilities, house rules, practices, and available services.
  • Respond to immediate needs of individuals in crisis, offering emotional and practical support as appropriate.
  • Participate in providing services as part of the support team, including supporting client care planning with keyworkers, child and youth workers, and outreach workers responsible for case management.
  • Provide non-directive and non-judgmental information to residents and non-resident clients both in person and via the helpline.
  • Operate the 24-hour helpline while on shift, responding compassionately and professionally to those seeking support or practical information.
  • Promote a safe and relaxed environment during client stays by ensuring safety and security protocols are observed.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with GDPR guidelines.
  • Work according to established policies and best practices.
  • Ensure high cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the facility, actively participating in cleaning tasks and encouraging clients to contribute effectively.
  • Prepare rooms for re-allocation after clients vacate.
  • Report maintenance requirements to management and document in the maintenance record book.
  • Familiarize yourself with Health and Safety procedures, including lone working practices and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of files and associated paperwork, updating the client database in a timely and professional manner.
  • Liaise/referral with other agencies to provide assistance, advocacy, and support to clients in conjunction with keyworkers and care plans.
  • Attend and participate fully in team meetings, training sessions, and supervisions provided by the organization.
  • Adhere to Children First Guidelines and Child Protection and Welfare policy.
  • Represent the organization's work and ethos in a professional and respectful manner at all times.
  • Collaborate with management to ensure the highest level of care is maintained, communicating regularly and advising on issues arising from work.
