About Us

Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) is a pivotal part of the Department of Justice, playing a key role in Ireland's criminal justice system. Our mission is to deliver high-quality forensic services through expert scientific analysis and advice.

We currently have 215 staff members and aim to expand our capacity to meet growing demand. The Director General will lead FSI's strategic development, drive improvement, and oversee the implementation of new scientific practices and techniques.

The ideal candidate will possess significant senior management experience in a STEM-based organisation, along with a strong understanding of relevant scientific methods and principles. A sound knowledge of sectoral, legal, political, and international issues is also essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic leadership and development of FSI
  • Driving change and improvement within the organisation
  • Evaluation and implementation of new scientific practices and techniques

Requirements

  • Significant senior management experience in a STEM-based organisation
  • Strong knowledge of relevant scientific methods and principles
  • Sound knowledge of sectoral, legal, political, and international issues

Desirable Qualifications

  • A qualification of at least level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications in a relevant subject
  • Membership of a recognised scientific body
  • A postgraduate qualification in management
  • A credible track record as a practicing scientist
