Exploring Planetary Magnetospheres for a Sustainable Future
2 weeks ago
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our research team and contribute to the exploration of planetary magnetospheres and habitable moons. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work on a range of topics, including spacecraft charging, moon-magnetosphere interactions, and solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling.
The project focuses on improving spacecraft observation analysis methods to maximize the scientific outcome of missions focused on the exploration of planetary magnetospheres and habitable moons. This includes analysing and simulating space environment observations near the Earth, the Moon, and in the solar wind.
The successful candidate will become an integrated part of the global space plasma science community and contribute to studies of the aurora of Jupiter's moon Ganymede and how auroral particles interact with the JUICE spacecraft.
We offer a 4-year full-time PhD position with a flexible start date as early as January 2025. The salary is €22,000 per year, tax-free. The successful applicant must have a bachelor or master degree in physics, space physics, computer science, or a closely related field.
The ideal candidate should have experience with spacecraft plasma and fields data analysis, modeling, and programming in Python. They should also be able to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, a high level of motivation, and excellent communication skills.
