Cyber Intelligence Specialist

Within the Navy electronics community, Cryptologic Technicians play a vital role in analyzing and deciphering encrypted electronic communications. Their expertise is essential in supporting various military operations worldwide.

Cryptologic Technicians specialize in linguistics, radar signals, communication network defense, and maintenance of sophisticated cryptologic equipment. They work closely with Cryptologic Warfare Officers and Cyber Warfare Engineers to ensure the security of sensitive information.

Upon completing initial training, personnel pursuing a Cryptologic Technician role attend formal Navy schooling in their specialty area. This includes technical 'A' School and possibly advanced 'C' School or 'F' School.

• Cryptologic Technician Interpretive (CTI): Collect, analyze, and exploit foreign language communications of interest; transcribe, translate, and interpret foreign language materials.
• Cryptologic Technician Technical (CTT): Operate electronic intelligence-receiving and direction-finding systems, digital recording devices, analysis terminals, and associated computer equipment.
• Cryptologic Technician Networks (CTN): Monitor, identify, collect, and analyze information; provide computer network risk mitigation and network vulnerability assessments and incident response/reconstruction.
• Cryptologic Technician Maintenance (CTM): Install, test, troubleshoot, repair, or replace cryptologic networks, physical security systems, electronic equipment, antennas, personal computers, auxiliary equipment, data systems.

Cryptologic Technicians perform a variety of duties worldwide, working independently or as part of small, coordinated teams under the supervision of Information Warfare Officers or Cyber Warfare Engineers.

A four-year degree is not required to join the Navy electronics community. Enlisted Sailors must be U.S. citizens eligible for a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance. Other general qualifications include an interest in electronics and technology, strong character, good communication and record-keeping skills, math aptitude, and the ability to perform highly detailed, highly classified work.
