MV Specialist Electrical Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced electrical engineer to lead and manage MV system design and engineering activities on specific construction projects or multiple projects.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of high-profile projects and contribute to the development of our engineering services.

Job Summary
  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage MV system design and engineering activities across various projects and geographical regions.
  • Provide direction and leadership for the design and engineering MV system activities on a project level.
  • Compile and issue electrical technical submittals.
  • Manage submittals through the approvals process and track procurement and delivery of electrical equipment.
  • Attend and record regular supply chain meetings to ensure progress is monitored & maintained within the overall construction programme.
  • Update and record progress on system trackers which are fully aligned with the construction schedule.
  • Liaise with the design team & supply chain to ensure correct operation of the plant on site & successful handover.
  • Complete electrical system walk-downs to ensure systems are compliant with specifications and drawings.
  • Compile test pack, FTOP's and O&Ms and present for approval.
  • Manage specialist vendors during the commissioning process to ensure timely completion of their works.
  • Undertake client training in line with agreed training plan.
Additional Skills and Expertise:
  • Data Analysis: Develop, review, and validate MV power system models using ETAP, PSCAD, DIgSILENT, CDEGS, or equivalent tools.
  • Power System Studies: Conduct advanced power system studies including load flow analysis, short-circuit analysis (IEC/IEEE standards), protection coordination and selectivity studies, motor starting analysis, transient stability studies, harmonic analysis & power quality assessment, arc-flash hazard assessment, and grounding/resistivity studies (using CDEGS).
  • Design Review: Review consultant and subcontractor designs for MV systems (switchgear, transformers, cables, earthing, relays, and protection systems) to identify design gaps and deviations or contradictions in the specifications.
  • Equipment Validation: Validate sizing, ratings, and specifications of MV equipment against system study outputs.
  • System Integration: Ensure designs comply with project specifications, IEC/IEEE standards, and client requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Verify integration of MV systems with LV, HV, and control systems.
