Role Overview
We are seeking a specialist in General Adult Liaison Psychiatry to join our Cork Mental Health Service. As a consultant medical professional, you will be responsible for the care and treatment of patients, ensuring seamless coordination with multidisciplinary teams and other health agencies.
You will lead community-based assessment and treatment programs, including out-patient clinics, day hospital services, and residential centers. Your work will focus on evidence-based practice and contribute to the overall excellence of our service.
The Cork Mental Health Services offer an extensive range of services to a population of approximately 720,000. Our general adult sectors provide comprehensive acute inpatient care, augmented by a liaison team based on a 7-day service model.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assess and manage a range of mental health conditions, including mood disorders, psychosis, substance misuse, and psychiatric symptoms secondary to physical illness.
- Collaborate with psychologists, nurses, social workers, and occupational therapists to deliver high-quality patient care.
- Liaise with emergency department staff regarding acute psychiatric presentations.
- Support discharge planning and coordination with community mental health services.
- Participate in clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide supervision and training to NCHDs (non-consultant hospital doctors), medical students, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in an on-call rota as per hospital policy.
