
Road Infrastructure Ecologist

We are seeking an experienced Ecological Consultant to join our team. As a Senior or Principal Ecologist, you will play a key role in managing and coordinating national road infrastructure projects.
You will work closely with professionals in-house and externally, contributing to project development and implementation that protects and restores biodiversity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and direct management and coordination of multiple road infrastructure projects, managing teams through constraints stage to Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Appropriate Assessment (AA Screening, NIS) reports.
- Design, commission, and schedule multi-disciplinary and specialist ecological surveys for sites around Ireland, conducting surveys personally when necessary.
- Coordinate, supervise, and manage other ecologists' work to ensure safe and efficient delivery of work on time and within budget.
- Work with staff and design teams to provide ecological design solutions and advice, interacting with environmental, planning, and development-related issues.
- Provide expert ecological advice and recommendations to clients, leading on provision of verbal, written, and face-to-face contact.
Requirements:
- Degree in ecology, natural science, or related biological discipline, with a postgraduate degree highly desirable.
- Membership of Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) at an appropriate level.
- Experience in ecological consultancy and road infrastructure projects, excellent technical report writing skills, and knowledge of Irish and EU wildlife and planning legislation.
- Excellent working knowledge of impact assessment and mitigation practices for large development types, particularly road infrastructure, and European and Irish protected species.
- Strong organisational, project, and time management skills, with ability to critically review others' work and ensure quality and accuracy of technical information.
