Job Overview

We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to lead the electrical design of our data centers across Asia Pacific. This role involves collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to create coordinated construction document sets, participating in site selection reviews, and designing critical data center equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, excellent communication skills, and experience working on mission-critical projects. They will also be able to work effectively within a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead electrical design efforts for data center projects, collaborating with other disciplines to ensure cohesive and effective solutions.
  • Participate in site selection reviews, evaluating factors such as site accessibility, utility availability, and environmental impact.
  • Design and develop critical data center equipment, including MV infrastructure, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, and earthing systems.
  • Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify electrical equipment that meets Amazon's quality and budget requirements.
  • Collaborate with local utilities to define site utility requirements and ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Review and approve equipment submittals, ensuring they meet Amazon's standards and specifications.
  • Provide technical support for information requests prior to and during construction phases, ensuring seamless project execution.
  • Work with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
  • Travel to sites for site reviews, work with onsite field engineers, and provide engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and startup support as needed.
Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 6 years of experience in mission-critical electrical design.
  • Comprehensive understanding of various code requirements across the APAC region, particularly for critical MV and LV electrical equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and high-quality standards.
  • Cross-discipline design coordination experience, preferably in a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Ability to carry new design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment/construction, driving continuous improvement and innovation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Chartered Engineer or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience delivering fast-track design/build projects and/or multiple significant upgrade projects in a multi-disciplined engineering environment.
  • Proven ability to think outside the box, finding creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs without impacting quality, reliability, or maintainability.
