Medical Scientist Job Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Medical Scientist to join our team in Blood Transfusion.

  • This is a contract role working on a fixed term basis for 12 months.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Mid-Senior level Medical Scientist to work in Blood Transfusion. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing blood grouping, antibody screening and compatibility testing to support safe transfusions.

They will also investigate and resolve complex serological cases including rare antibodies and haemolytic disease of the newborn.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform blood grouping, antibody screening and compatibility testing to support safe transfusions.
  2. Investigate and resolve complex serological cases including rare antibodies and haemolytic disease of the newborn.
  3. Issue and monitor blood products while ensuring strict compliance with national standards and regulatory requirements.
  4. Operate and maintain specialist laboratory equipment including automated analysers and blood grouping systems.
  5. Provide urgent transfusion support in emergency situations and collaborate closely with clinical teams.
  6. Maintain accurate records to ensure full traceability and adherence to quality standards.

Requirements

To be successful in this role you will require:

  • A strong knowledge of immunohematology and serology.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Clear and confident communication skills to support colleagues during major haemorrhage and trauma protocols.
  • A commitment to professional development and maintenance of CORU registration.
