Backend Software Engineer Job Description

We are shaping the future of search and discovery for millions of customers. Our Search & Browse Personalization team builds backend systems that power engaging shopping experiences—helping users discover fashion they love.


Our goal is to create data-driven and AI-enhanced experiences that make fashion discovery more engaging, from surfacing trending styles to offering personalized recommendations that inspire customers. We process vast amounts of data to power dynamic, real-time insights into fashion trends, helping shoppers find what suits them best.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and build scalable backend systems that enhance search and personalization experiences.
  • Develop high-performance services that power real-time fashion discovery and personalized recommendations.
  • Optimize search ranking and recommendation logic through backend engineering.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (frontend, data, product) to refine and deliver impactful features.
  • Write and review solution designs for complex backend challenges.
  • Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and knowledge sharing.
  • Drive operational excellence, ensuring system performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Requirements:
  • Strong background in backend engineering with at least one JVM language (Java, Kotlin, Scala).
  • Built distributed systems and microservices at scale.
  • Experience designing, building, and consuming robust APIs, particularly RESTful services and/or GraphQL.
  • Solid grasp of data engineering concepts and backend system design.
  • Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, and DevOps best practices.
  • Possess a strong passion for delivering high-quality software solutions, collaborating with teams, and driving innovation in search and discovery.
