Job Summary

The role of a Health Care Assistant is to provide personalized support to customers, assisting them with daily activities such as personal care, meal preparation, and light housekeeping. This may involve supporting customers with showering or bathing, dressing, incontinence care, and medication management.

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain the highest standards of safety procedures, including Person Moving and Handling protocols.
  • Report any concerns or incidents related to customers or colleagues to your manager.
  • Document all tasks completed with customers accurately and factually in daily logs.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Attend scheduled training sessions and work within safe and professional boundaries.
  • Perform each task with dignity and respect for customers.
  • Encourage autonomy and decision-making.
  • Engage in conversations with customers throughout shifts, ensuring professionalism at all times.
  • Attend shifts as scheduled and notify the office promptly if unable to attend or late.
Qualifications and Training
  • QQI Level 5 Health Care Award or equivalent, or one year of experience.
  • Completion of additional training requirements:
    • Children's First – HSE LAND
    • Safeguarding – HSE LAND
    • Dementia Training – HSE LAND
    • GDPR Training – HSE LAND
    • AMRIC Basics of Infection Prevention and Control – HSE LAND
    • AMRIC Hand Hygiene – HSE LAND
    • Putting on and taking off PPE in Community Healthcare- HSE LAND
Key Skills
  • Basic patient care: bathing, dressing, feeding.
  • Assisting with mobility and exercise.
  • Effective verbal and written communication & Active listening.
  • Following instructions and protocols.
  • Providing companionship and emotional support.
  • Familiarity with healthcare equipment and devices.
  • Time management and task prioritization.
