Job Title: Specialist Medical Scientist in Microbiology and Surveillance

Description:

In this critical role, you will serve as a Specialist Medical Scientist in Microbiology and Surveillance. Your key responsibilities will include monitoring surveillance data in Microbiology, Serology, and Virology, ensuring that systems and processes are in place to provide accurate and timely information required by all stakeholders within the hospital and among partner agencies.

You will work closely with DOVE for the surveillance of Serology data and complete quarterly reports. Additionally, you will be responsible for extracting antimicrobial resistance data from laboratory information systems, categorizing it into hospital-acquired, healthcare-associated, and community-acquired categories, and collating and disseminating relevant data to laboratory managers, hospital senior management, and the infection control committee.

Another key aspect of your role will be aiding in laboratory developments to improve the surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and developing and maintaining databases that facilitate the surveillance of Staphylococcus aureus, C. difficile, vancomycin-resistant enterococci, and other organisms as appropriate.

You will also contribute to the early recognition and management of outbreaks of infection or unexpected infection-related events in the Hospital and associated community services. Furthermore, you will participate in local and national initiatives such as the surveillance of Healthcare-associated infections and assist in notifying diseases to public health departments using CIDR and non-CIDR methodologies.
