Applications are invited for experienced HV Substation Designers to join our team in the Northern and Southern Regions. This exciting opportunity involves designing safe and efficient high-voltage substation projects, working closely with ESB staff and contractors.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing full station designs for existing and greenfield sites, maintaining a deep understanding of HV and MV electrical stations design principles, and preparing high-quality electrical and physical designs using CAD/CAE systems.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Designing full station projects for both existing and new sites
  2. Maintaining an excellent knowledge of HV and/or MV Electrical Stations design and design tools
  3. Preparing scope documents, calculating costs, and preparing capital approvals, authorisations, and protection settings requests
  4. Survey / inspection and measurement work within live stations, including safe use of associated measurement tools and systems
  5. Performing factory acceptance testing of control and protection panels
  6. Supporting installers and commissioners with design queries and issues during pre-commissioning and commissioning
  7. Recording and updating as-built records, Asset Registers, and Network Maps
  8. Maintaining commercial focus by preparing least cost technically acceptable designs
  9. Compliance with H&S Legislation
  10. Compliance with Environmental Legislation
  11. Fulfil the role of Designer under the Construction Regulations

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Utility AIS/GIS HV Substation plant, including Transformers, Circuit Breakers, Control & Protection, and Metering
  • Ability to translate scope and policy requirements into constructable designs
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience
  • Knowledge of ESB IT systems
  • Ability to operate in 2D and 3D CAD/BIM environments
  • Apply Quality Management standards in ESB Networks
