Public Sector Role Overview
The role involves working on drainage schemes and critical infrastructure for a government office.
Maintaining arterial drainage schemes, constructing flood defence schemes, and managing government properties are key responsibilities.
The position requires a high level of expertise in construction work, site management, and construction design process, as well as experience with occupational health and safety regulations.
Responsibilities include identifying hazards and assessing risks on site, advising supervisors on control measures, communicating health and safety requirements, and taking corrective action to minimize risk.
This is an hourly paid contract assignment with the possibility of further duration extensions or permanency.
Work will be carried out under the direct managed works model, involving various activities such as channel maintenance, embankment maintenance, structure maintenance, construction, and refurbishment of earthen embankments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drainage maintenance activities including silt and vegetation management, aquatic vegetation cutting, bush trimming/cutting, and tree trimming/cutting.
- Embankment maintenance including mowing, mulching, bush trimming/cutting, tree trimming/cutting, and strengthening work.
- Structure maintenance including bridge maintenance/replacement, sluice maintenance/replacement, and bank protection works.
- Construction of earthen embankments, reinforced concrete walls, sheet piled retaining and defence walls, precast concrete culverts, and bank protection measures.
Requirements:
- Level 7 Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety.
- At least 3 years of experience in construction work and knowledge of construction methods, site management, and construction design process.
- Current Safe Pass Card and valid driving licence.
- Computer-literate and necessary IT skills.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills.
