Salary

Note: Salary details are not included in this job description.

Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist – Upper Limb Rehabilitation. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical leadership and expertise within an interdisciplinary team of specialists, focusing on upper limb injuries with a specialized focus on the shoulder.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the upper limb rehabilitation service, providing expert consultation and joint working with staff to manage patient care through the rehabilitation pathway.
  • Ensure high standards of patient care by implementing evidence-based practices aligned with national and specialist clinical guidance.
  • Keep staff informed of recent developments through participation in research-based conferences, network meetings, and postgraduate education and training.

Rehabilitation
This role involves assessing and treating injuries, designing and implementing rehabilitation pathways, and collaborating with the team to enhance the management of upper limb injuries. You will also conduct advanced assessments using investigative and clinical reasoning skills to develop individualized treatment plans, evaluate and implement clinical outcome measures to monitor the effectiveness of rehabilitation pathways, and continuously evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the service through service evaluations and clinical audits.

Management
You will be responsible for managing and organizing your patient caseload and supporting other therapists with complex upper limb rehabilitation cases. This includes developing and monitoring clinical standards for upper limb rehabilitation in accordance with local and national guidelines, participating actively in postgraduate education, and organizing specialist courses. Additionally, you will be expected to refer patients to appropriate orthopaedic/neuro consultants, sports and exercise medicine consultants, and other tertiary services, serving as an information resource, and establishing collaborative links with local and national advanced practitioners.

Communication
You will use advanced communication skills to effectively interact with patients and referrers, ensuring understanding and maximising rehabilitation potential. This includes ensuring confidentiality in all communications, especially regarding patient, carer, and staff information, facilitating clear communication within the multi-professional team to coordinate patient care effectively, and ensuring appropriate record keeping and maintenance of good practice in data recording.

Teamwork
You will suggest and promote creative ideas and approaches to improve individual and team performance, offer extended scopes of practice to optimise patient management within a clinic setting (in line with services developed by the Director of Sports Medicine), and maintain a clean, safe environment in adherence to UPMC SSC's standards.
