Strategic Payroll Leader

As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will have the opportunity to take charge of a high-performing payroll team and elevate the payroll function during a time of major transformation.

This is a unique opportunity to combine strategic leadership with hands-on execution, optimising processes, driving compliance, and unlocking the full potential of the Group payroll operations in Ireland.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leadership & Team Development: Lead, mentor and develop a Payroll Team to ensure high performance, accuracy and ongoing professional growth.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and collaboration.
  • Provide clear objectives and support to ensure the team adapts successfully to new systems and processes.

Additionally, you will be responsible for:

  • Payroll Operations & Compliance: Oversee the end-to-end processing of payroll for over 2,000 employees across multiple locations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll execution in line with contractual, legal and Revenue obligations.
  • Maintain full compliance with tax legislation, employment laws and Revenue (ROS) reporting.

Other key areas of focus include:

  • System Development & Optimisation: Take ownership of the ongoing optimisation of the newly implemented Payroll System.
  • Act as lead for payroll system enhancements and integration with other HR/Finance systems.
  • Collaborate with the IT and HR teams to ensure system stability, data integrity and automation.

Furthermore, you will be responsible for:

  • Reporting & Analytics: Develop & deliver insightful payroll-related reports to HR, Finance and Senior Management.
  • Leverage data to inform strategic decisions and identify cost-saving or efficiency opportunities.

Finally, you will work closely with:

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Process Improvement: Work closely with HR, Finance, Operations and IT to streamline and optimise end-to-end processes affecting payroll.
  • Lead & support cross-functional projects that enhance employee experience and operational efficiency.
  • Identify risks and implement robust controls, safeguarding payroll accuracy and compliance.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in managing a large-scale payroll operation in Ireland.
  • Deep knowledge of PAYE, payroll compliance and Revenue reporting requirements.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills with the ability to interpret and present data.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and project leadership skills.
  • IPASS Qualification (or equivalent) and proficient in Excel.
  • Good understanding of Payroll input to management accounts.
  • Understanding of accounting fundamentals.
  • Experience working with 3rd-party payroll support providers.
  • Background in change management or systems transformation projects.
