Role Overview

The Specification Technologist will work closely with Quality Managers, stakeholders, and suppliers to ensure all products have current and accurate specifications on Ornua's specifications system.

This role is responsible for the management of the specification system, including maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), user guides, training users, and monitoring KPIs related to process performance.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Initiate all specifications across Foods/Ingredients/Internal for cheese, butter, powder, and diversified products in conjunction with key stakeholders in Ornua's internal specification system.
  2. Manage approval, reviews, and re-approval of specifications with key stakeholders in Ornua and product suppliers, ensuring timely resolution of queries. Manage priority lists for specification review to prevent expirations.
  3. Review and approve product unit and case artwork in conjunction with relevant Quality Managers using ESKO packaging software.
  4. In partnership with regulatory and innovation departments, ensure that all specifications and artwork content/design comply with legislation, project brief, customer requirements, and relevant codes of practice.
  5. Timely manage all steps to move an approved specification from the specification system to ERP M3, leading the completion of sales specifications.
  6. Manage product setup on ERP M3, including key attributes and shelf-life setup, and periodically review to ensure accuracy.
  7. Complete administration activities for the specification management system, such as maintaining up-to-date SOPs, work instructions, access management, answering queries, and assisting users.
  8. Work with stakeholders to resolve any specification management system IT issues.
  9. Continuously improve processes and working methods.
  10. Lead implementing updates to specification systems and procedures, ensuring users are trained appropriately. Ensure regular refresher training sessions for the Quality Team and other stakeholders as required.
  11. Participate in projects involving innovation, new product development, and product launches in conjunction with Quality Managers. Support Quality Managers in sharing project activities around NPD projects.
  12. Take lead in customer/regulatory audits on Specification Management.
  13. Support the Technical Support team as needed in query management.
  14. Represent TN Ireland to the highest standard in interactions with members, suppliers, and customers.
Key Requirements:
  1. A third-level qualification in a technical food/food science discipline.
  2. At least 2 years' relevant experience within the dairy/food industry.
  3. Experience and understanding of using specification systems like Tesco Technical Library, M&S FIND, Foods Connected, SpecSafe.
  4. Interpreting and applying labelling legislation and major retailers' labelling requirements and codes of practices.
  5. Working knowledge of food regulations and their application, and applied knowledge of UK/EU food labelling legislation.
  6. Strong communication, interpersonal, organisational, and administrative skills.
  7. Meticulous attention to detail.
  8. Methodical and highly organised with ability to multi-task.
  9. Flexible and committed attitude with ability to display initiative.
  10. The ability to work independently and as part of a team, driving continuous improvement.
  11. Strong Word, Excel, and database skills.
  12. Willingness to travel in Ireland and abroad as required.
