Job Overview

This position entails the design, development and implementation of automation systems for manufacturing and R&D projects within a regulated environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying opportunities to streamline operations, reduce waste and increase throughput.

A key aspect of this role is integrating automation solutions with existing equipment and systems.

Furthermore, the Automation Engineer will collaborate with project managers, engineers and stakeholders to define requirements, create detailed project plans and conduct feasibility studies.

Installation, testing and commissioning of automation equipment are also crucial aspects of this job.

The Automation Engineer will oversee the installation of automation equipment, manage testing and commissioning to ensure operational readiness and coordinate with suppliers, contractors and internal teams for seamless delivery.

Troubleshooting and continuous improvement are also essential skills required for this role.

The Automation Engineer will diagnose and resolve technical issues with automation hardware and software, implement preventative maintenance and reliability improvements and analyse system performance to recommend enhancements.

Additionally, this role requires ensuring all automation systems comply with medical device regulations, safety standards and company policies.

The Automation Engineer will develop and maintain technical documentation, including user manuals, maintenance procedures and project reports, as well as support internal and external audits as required.

Finally, the Automation Engineer will train end-users and maintenance teams on system operation and provide ongoing technical support to ensure smooth production and R&D workflows.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Education: NFQ Level 7 qualification (180 credits) in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical or related discipline.
  • Industry Experience: Proven track record in automation engineering, ideally in the medical device sector or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI development, SCADA systems integration and CAD software.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
