Job Overview:

The Marine Institute is a non-commercial semi-state body responsible for marine research, technology development and innovation. This role will lead oceanographic work with the institute and other agencies at national and international levels.

The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of existing projects and identify new research and service-development projects to strengthen the contribution of oceanographic services to government and research activities addressing national resilience and societal challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify requirements for oceanographic data products and services
  • Manage oceanographic research vessel programmes and data
  • Develop and promote the utilisation by the research community of national weather buoy and tide gauge networks
  • Lead and/or oversee research programmes in oceanography and climate contributing to national and international collaborative programmes
  • Manage and develop the National Equipment Pool

Requirements:

A strong background in oceanography and climate research, with experience in project management and team leadership. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential for this role.
