Ecological Consultant

We are seeking a highly skilled Ecological Consultant to join our team. As an Ecological Consultant, you will be responsible for advising on protecting valued biodiversity features on construction sites. You will provide practical, site-specific, and proportionate guidance to help clients achieve compliance with environmental legislation.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Irish and EU environmental protection and wildlife legislation and planning guidelines. They will also possess excellent communication skills, including face-to-face communication with clients and contractors, as well as verbal and written communication.

In this role, you will review relevant documents, including AA/NIS, EcIA, CEMP, and species and habitat management plans. You will consult with local planning authorities, local Biodiversity Officers, National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), and Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI). Additionally, you will conduct pre-construction and construction phase checks for protected species and provide an ecological watching brief during vegetation clearance, building renovation or demolition, habitat translocation, creation, enhancement, and management work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advising on protecting valued biodiversity features on construction sites

  • Reviewing relevant documents
  • Consulting with local authorities and experts
  • Conducting pre-construction and construction phase checks
  • Providing an ecological watching brief
  • Daily record keeping and reporting
Requirements:
  • A third-level qualification in environmental science, zoology, ecology, or a similar discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience on a broad range of ecological projects
  • Awareness and understanding of Irish and EU environmental protection and wildlife legislation and planning guidelines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel to sites
