The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) is recruiting a Medical Oncology Lead for Cancer Clinical Trials to join a growing team focused on expanding cancer clinical trials and increasing patient accruals. This academic oncology role involves a joint appointment with University College Cork (UCC) and Cork University Hospital (CUH). The initial commitment is 18.5 hours per week at each institution, with potential for future restructuring.

As a key member of the Cancer Centre leadership team, the successful candidate will have access to office and laboratory space and will be supported by the UCC Cancer Trials Group, the CRF-UCC, and affiliated hospital sites. They will play a central role in shaping the future of cancer research in the region, expanding investigator-initiated trials while attracting new industry-sponsored and international collaborative trials.

The Professor will join a highly skilled Medical Oncology team at CUH, with their training and subspecialty interests shaping their integration into the service and determining which multidisciplinary team meetings they will support. The position is supported through a strategic collaboration between UCC and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), USA.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. To lead the development and implementation of cancer clinical trials, working closely with the UCC Cancer Trials Group and CRF-UCC teams.
  2. To attract and secure funding for investigator-initiated trials, as well as industry-sponsored and international collaborative trials.
  3. To contribute to the development of innovative treatments and therapies, driving progress in cancer research and patient care.

Required Qualifications:

  1. A doctorate or appropriate professional qualification (e.g. MD; PhD) or a significant record of research and publication in the relevant discipline.
