Ship Operations Officer Role

This leadership position plays a central role in overseeing the operational readiness and safety of a naval vessel, from navigation to mission execution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Overall command and operational readiness of a naval vessel.
  • Safe navigation and maritime traffic monitoring, ensuring the vessel's safety and crew welfare.
  • Leading boarding teams during maritime enforcement operations.
  • Progressing to Commanding Officer status, responsible for leading a ship and its crew on domestic and international missions.
Requirements:
  • Citizenship: Irish citizen or entitled to work in Ireland.
  • Meet medical, physical, and security clearance standards.
  • Under 50 years old by December 31st in the year of application.
  • Deck Officer Certificate of Competency (Department of Transport) with watchkeeping experience.
Recruitment Process:

A competency-based interview, medical exam, and Garda vetting are part of the process.

Assessments take place at the Naval Base, Haulbowline Island, Cork.
