Electrical Engineer - MV Systems Specialist Role
">Job DescriptionWe are seeking a seasoned Electrical Engineer to lead the design and engineering of Medium Voltage (MV) systems on construction projects. As an MV Specialist, you will oversee the technical design and installation of MV systems, ensuring successful commissioning and integration with other electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement MV system designs that meet project specifications and industry standards.
- Lead cross-functional teams in the coordination of technical design with onsite installation.
- Compile and manage electrical technical submittals through the approvals process.
- Manage procurement and delivery of electrical equipment, including receipt verification and supply chain coordination.
- Monitor and update progress on system trackers aligned with the construction schedule.
- Review electrical installations with the Building Information Modeling (BIM) team to ensure constructibility and adequate space for installation and maintenance.
- Liaise with design teams and suppliers to ensure correct operation of plant equipment on site and successful handover.
- Conduct electrical system walk-downs to verify compliance with specifications and drawings.
- Compile test packs, Functional Test Operation Procedures (FTOPs), and Operator and Maintenance (O&M) documents for approval.
- Coordinate specialist vendors during commissioning to ensure timely completion of their works.
- Provide client training as per agreed-upon plans.
- Assist construction teams in resolving complex MV system technical issues.
- Develop, review, and validate MV power system models using ETAP, PSCAD, DIgSILENT, CDEGS, or equivalent software tools.
- Perform advanced power system studies, including load flow analysis, short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, motor starting analysis, transient stability studies, harmonic analysis & power quality assessment, arc-flash hazard assessment, and grounding/resistivity studies.
- Ensure modelling assumptions, data inputs, and results align with design documents and manufacturer data.
- Review consultant and subcontractor designs for MV systems, identify gaps or deviations from specifications, and validate sizing, ratings, and specifications of MV equipment against system study outputs.
- Verify cable sizing and make recommendations as needed.
- Ensure designs comply with project specifications, IEC/IEEE standards, and client requirements.
- Validate integration of MV systems with Low Voltage (LV), High Voltage (HV), and control systems.
- Collaborate with Project Manager, Electrical Engineering Manager, and Design Manager to ensure overall successful delivery of MV system related activities.
- Participate in monthly meetings with Design Manager to discuss ongoing improvements, developments, and KPI progress.
- Talent Development: Oversee the onboarding and development of design and engineering team members, supporting career paths and reviewing training programs.
- Continuously improve and integrate MV system related engineering and design processes with established company procedures.
Action-oriented Electrical Engineer with expertise in MV systems and experience leading cross-functional teams. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills required.
