Seeking a qualified professional to fill the role of Fisheries Officer. This challenging position requires implementing and enforcing provisions related to fisheries conservation, protection, and development.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for patrolling lakes, rivers, sea, coast, and estuaries to check for illegal fishing, protecting State Game Fisheries, detecting and preventing pollution, inspecting commercial Salmon & Sea Trout licence holders and recreational anglers, issuing Fixed Penalty Notices if necessary, providing shore cover, and maintaining vehicles, RIBs, and surveillance equipment.

  • Patrol lakes, rivers, sea, coast, and estuaries to check for illegal fishing
  • Protect State Game Fisheries, including Laune and managed lakes
  • Detect and prevent pollution, take samples, and gather information
  • Inspect commercial Salmon & Sea Trout licence holders and recreational anglers for licence and/or permit
  • Issue Fixed Penalty Notices if necessary and apprehend offenders
  • Provide shore cover and act as a crew member for local staff on RIB patrols
  • Maintain and upkeep vehicles, RIBs, and surveillance equipment
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a Leaving Certificate (Level 5 NFQ) or recognised equivalent, a full Category B driving licence that is valid in Ireland, no convictions under the Irish Fisheries Legislation, eligibility to work in the State, fluent English skills, good knowledge of computer skills, including MS Office, and reside close to base for call-out purposes.

Remuneration:

The annual salary range for this position is €31,979 - €46,693, depending on point scale and experience, and an unsocial hour's allowance of up to €7,744 per annum will be payable at either 50% or 100% relative to the number of unsocial hours worked.
