What’s the Role: Support Worker

What It Takes:

An important part of the staff role is to support our service users who have complex needs and help them to manage their emotions.

So the ability to be resilient, to communicate effectively and to utilise a variety of communication tools is essential.

Our dedicated staff team support our service users to learn and develop their independence skills which includes tasks such as shopping, cleaning their flat, personal care, accessing the community, budgeting, taking medication. Each staff member has something to bring to the role and we encourage staff to use their humour and sense of fun and creativity in supporting our service users with day to day life.

Where You Would Work: The Avenue

The Avenue is based in the heart of the community in Ardee, Co. Louth.

It is currently home to one young lady who has mental health difficulties and autism. The aim of the service is to re-integrate the service user into the community, participating in daily community activities with an emphasis on healthy living. Increasing daily living skills is also a goal for the service user to allow them to lead a more independent life in the future. The service user is also re-commencing education opportunities which are supported by staff. The Avenue has built strong relationship with the service user family and we welcome and support their close involvement. We actively support the service user to meet and visit their family members. In The Avenue we aim to provide a person centred approach to meet the service user individualised needs. We believe that each service user we support should have the opportunity to lead active and fulfilling lives and have lots of fun along the away Currently high staffing levels are in place as the service user may engage in behaviours that challenge including verbal and physical aggression towards staff .The team promote a high quality service and staff are all committed to ensuring that the service user they support are living a worthwhile life and are active members of their communities. Shift patterns currently are nine to nine days and nine to nine night duties for support workers. Team leaders also are required to work sleepover shifts. Staff are required to also work weekend shifts.

Salary Details:

Support Worker

Full Time

€27,990 - €38,844 per annum (Dependant on Qualification)

*Salary based on 39 hours per week. Salary dependent on qualification/experience. Where the role requires sleep-ins, a minimum additional payment of the national minimum wage per night applies*
