Opportunity We are seeking a highly skilled Registrar in Microbiology to join a growing voluntary hospital in the heart of Cork City.  Join a teaching hospital, a centre of national and international excellence, which is renowned for its research and tertiary service Please note this post may be filled by a Specialist Registrar. The salary scale for the post as a Registrar is €68,209, €70,836, €75,286, €77,799, €80,323 Additional remuneration for on-call duties and overtime as applicable, depending on rota 30 days annual leave 10 public holidays Hours: 37 hours per week, plus on-call supplements Temporary Contract 6/12 months, Full Time Hours. Responsibilities Participate in the provision of a comprehensive microbiology service, including diagnostic testing, infection prevention, and antimicrobial stewardship. Work closely with Consultant Microbiologists and the wider multidisciplinary team in managing hospital- and community-acquired infections. Provide clinical advice to medical, nursing, and laboratory colleagues on the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases. Assist in laboratory reporting, clinical ward rounds, and infection control audits. Participate in teaching, training, and supervision of junior medical staff, medical students, and laboratory staff where appropriate. Contribute to departmental quality improvement initiatives and clinical governance. Participate in the on-call rota as required Department: The Department of Microbiology at this university hospital provides essential diagnostic and advisory services to support infection diagnosis, management, and control. The service includes bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, infection prevention, and antimicrobial stewardship. The department is committed to delivering safe, timely, and evidence-based care in line with national and international best practice. Requirements to apply: Full registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) is essential to apply for this post Previous experience in microbiology is essential.  Strong clinical and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated interest in infection prevention, patient safety, and quality improvement. Commitment to continuous professional development and training.
